Product Testing/Packaging
Product testing and packaging draws experts from MSU Food Science and Packaging departments. Dr. Janice Harte is the lead consultant for the Product Center for Product Testing. She has a wealth of experience and is the primary contact for the MSU Food Sensory Laboratory. Dr. Harte has been assisting food industry and entrepreneurs by providing information, testing services, referrals for food product development, sensory evaluation needs and serve as a liaison for food processing and food safety information. The laboratory consists of a testing area (organoleptic), training area (educate industry, students or professionals in food safety) and preparation area (for samples).

Our clients benefit from the Product Center’s collaboration with MSU School of Packaging. The school offers testing services (http://packaging.msu.edu/uploads/files/TestingServices-PackExpo.web.pdf) and expert faculty, who are available for consultation. The client can have their food product available for school of packaging student capstone project, which studies solutions for efficient packaging for all products (food and non-food).

Product Testing: Project work for product testing is custom and requires individual work plan per needs identified. Upon determination of tasks to be accomplished, a cost estimate will be created with hourly rate charge at $106/hour, plus supplies. Service is coordinate by Specialized Services.
Packaging – Clients of the Product Center are assisted with the coordination of consultation with Packaging faculty, plus participating in senior Capstone course. Fees for this work vary and are coordinated by Specialized Services.
